This pioneer cemetery was started in the 1860's. Many records have been lost in the flood during the 1970's. Missing parts of headstones, like in this cemetery are usually buried in the same area, but there is one here, a bit big for that, maybe hit by a car?, but where is it? sad nonetheless. I know that style[metal and hollow] and it stands over six feet. This cemetery is closed but plans are to re-open it [over half empty] but it is a lengthy and difficult process. Some headstones are unreadable from material choice such as the old Carrara marble. No marble is allowed in Catholic cemeteries anymore. Granite is a much better. A lot of changes have occurred around this land over the years but it still has an unrestricted view of the city, on top of this hill. There is a lane off Blain which is not very plain.....................................................................................................................................Gravehunter Adds: That damaged Monument is known as "White Bronze" that is actually made from sandcast zinc. They were mass produced by 3 major Companies in the States between 1874 and 1914 and were more weather durable then granite and marble and only about 1/4 of the cost. They also had interchangeable panels for adding names later on. Their major drawback was that they were very brittle and a fallen tree branch could easily shatter a Monument. Perhaps that's what happened here...or maybe a kid with a baseball bat and time on his hands. Keep the Cemeteries coming MW, I enjoy seeing the old Stones.
