This is one of two cottages to be found very near the Nanticoke Generating Station, which no doubt was a catalyst to this location's demise. The plant was listed as a top 10 Canadian greenhouse gas emitter prior to its decommissioning and conversion to more eco-friendly forms of energy production last year (2013). From satellite view, Sandy Cove Beach looks idyllic. I was really looking forward to the visit, perhaps even to dip my toes into the water. Who wouldn't want to live by the lake? Private beach, fresh air? Nope and Nope. The air here is horrific, like a dead fish in a dirty sock kind of viciousness. The beach view is marred by a long rusty coal conveyor stretching far out on the lake's surface. It doesn't take a gossip columnist to figure out why this place was deserted. Did I mention the oodles of spiders?

Now that I'm done selling the tickets...on to the galleries!

Thanks guys...@ superss I agree. The stench is unforgiving. I can't imagine waking up every day to that. At least in photos it looks pleasant enough!

Very nice, but what a waste of what could have been a precious property.
