Full information available at https://lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID=1549: In 1880, Parliament allocated $1500 for a lighthouse on Strawberry Island. It was first lit in 1881. Its last resident keeper died in the 1960s, and since then it has been rented as a summer cottage. The light is now solar powered. There remains no electricity or running water in the facility. In 2006, Strawberry Island Lighthouse was recognized as a federal heritage building.
Among the best preserved lighthouses in the region, owing to the fact that it is only accessible by boat. Do not drive down Whites Point Road to access this – you will not find the lighthouse and the neighbours get very annoyed by this. Though supposedly well-maintained, it is seldom visited due to its unique island location, so this would be a great stop for an intrepid explorer with a boat. I did not get a chance to visit here while I was in Little Current, but wanted to pass on the location to this community.
Stop by anytime. To arrange a formal visit, lighthousefriends.com advises you contact Gary Green (who lives in Little Current) at 705-368-2538.
