Fort Reverse Par is a historical site located on Telegraph Hill in Hull, Massachusetts. The Hull village also contains another fortification, which was built during the American Revolution. The park is a historical site owned by the state and used for picnics and site seeing.

The Background of Fort Revere Park

Fort Revere Park is earlier known as Fort Independence but was later named after Paul Revere to honor him. In 1776 during the American Revolution, the fort was under American Whigs and that's why it was called Fort Independence. Within this time the fort consisted of two detached batteries, 15 guns along a nearby military hospital. In 1797 the fort name was changed to The French Fort on Castle Island. It was mainly built to protect Boston Harbor.  Within 1777 the fort had 22 guns along with 2 detached batteries and a military hospital nearby. But within the next year, the fort also mounted 22 more guns. In 1778s, August the fort was supervised by chief engineer du Portail, he was a French general and also assisted in the Continental Army, under General Washington's suggestion

In 1780 the fort was greatly expanded by patriot forces along with French activists. Later in this year, they consist of the hilltop with a new 30 gun water battery, new barracks, hospital, and cemetery.  During the era of World War I the Telegraph hill became a telegraph station and later a radio station.

During the World Wars

One of the main attractions of the fort were two 12 inch guns of battery Ripley, which had a 18400 yards range. These two guns were reassigned as battery Pope, during world war I. The 5-inch guns of this fort were used immensely during the war. But after the war ends these 5-inch guns were removed from this fort and sent to France to the 69th coast artillery regiment. In the time of World War II, the fort was again restructured and ready for the war. It was all again dressed with a new defense system as all the earlier guns were scrapped from this fort after World War I.

Hazards of the Fort Revere     

In the war of 1812, there was no activity recorded and the fort was out of use after 1815. Under the Third System of US Fortification, they proposed reformation of the old fort but nothing happened in reality. During world war -I most of the fort was demolished.  In the time of World War II, a temporary structure was built to accommodate. By 1947 the fort was disarmed and turned over to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Recent situation of Fort Revere    

In 1976 the fort was redeveloped and an amphitheater was also installed in the fort. In the same year, the French government donated a  monument to the fort for the memoir of Bastille day. Today it is one of the tourist spots of Massachusetts. The whole fort turned into a state park and a famous picnic spot in town.
