History of FCA Canada Auto Parts & Distribution

This plant acted as the FCA’s (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) National Parts and Distribution Centre opened in 1972, and also served as a technical training centre along with acting as a storage facility. This building is absolutely massive, with the perimeter of the building being 1.4 kilometers of length, with the majority of the space being taken up by enormous loading bays and storage facilities.

The facility started to show its first warning signs of closure in 2008, when the FCA laid essentially cut the number of employees in half, going from 228 to 127 people. A major factor of this stemmed from changes in the auto industry, and the accessibility of parts and distributions changing. This led to many dealerships getting parts from elsewhere, primarily the United States. In 2014, the FCA cut down on jobs again, going from approximately 100 workers to merely 55.

The FCA officially closed this Mississauga facility in early 2024. Although the FCA did not state the reason for the closure, it was likely due to similar reasons that caused the previous downsizing for the struggling facility.

Car in the parking lot at 4am, so we were careful. Didn’t run into any security, but not positive if there’s anyone on site.
