A sad sight. Out driving recently and after snapping pics at a couple of locations, I came across this afternoon tragedy on Hutchison Road in Wellesley. Fire crews were doing their best, but the house is a goner, completely gutted. There are a few outbuildings on the property but I don(a)t believe the current owners are the ones who farm the surrounding land. With that in mind, I would expect the remains to be demolished. Whether or not the property is worthy of future exploration is anybody(a)s guess.

Fire was on Friday, October 28th. Nothing in the local news about it.

Re: the history of the property...I have consulted both the 1878 atlas map and the 1861 Tremaine map, and it(a)s very curious. The 1878 map does show the church (gone) and cemetery across the road, but no structure on the plot in question, nor does it show (at least to me) ownership. However, the 1861 Tremaine map, which also acknowledges the church across the road, DOES show a structure on the property, owned at the time of printing by a John Hoffman.

I remember driving by this and wanting to stop but I couldn't. Went back a few months later and couldn't find it. No wonder I couldn't find it...

I'm pretty excited. I visited this location years ago and I swore that I took pictures. I looked in my archives and couldn't find them. And now? They were on the built-in memory on my old Panasonic Lumix! Just found 'em and will upload as soon as I can.

Changed to public. Duh.

@ alpha, I never thought of that. My head hurts when the concept of intentional destruction is the cause. Same for that Medway Road one in London that is being killed by the police.

Yup...this was the Wellesley one I had mentioned that I had been pissed off about not having been to before it became so much charcoal and rubble. Good on you that you were able to get in before this happened.

Damn...I thought it had been an active property for some reason prior to the burning...wish I had taken a trip by a few months earlier. Now the plot thickens if it was already abandoned.

New gallery posted from a three week follow up to the burning. House is now rubble, 3 outbuildings remain. I did not bother checking inside them. Sad sight (site).
