This would have been the eastern extent of Horncastle where Carden and Laxton Townships touch along the Old Victoria Rd. Some of the local cows enjoyed coming up to the fence to say hello. The 1st post office was just north of here..The 2nd was SW.

This 1887 map of Victoria County shows Horncastle on the border just inside Laxton Township, because this is where its post office was at that time..But it was actually located just SW of here in Carden Township.

This was the Fitzgerald house in the 1800s at Horncastle, at what was the original location of the hamlet of Carden, that had a post office as well.

Downtown Horncastle 2010 is now a meadow area with a windpump and hunting tower. The 1st school SS7 stood to the north. The post office/store was to just a wee bit NW of here.

This swamp and forest exists where Black Bear Rd and Horncastle Rd meet. Just north was the centre of the community where the post office sat..check last photos.

This the centre of Horncastle from the air- it shows Black Bear Rd and Horncastle Rd- both of which are almost impassible these days.
