Right next door to James Kemp lived John Kemp. The only information on John I have been able to find was from Barbara Wall La Rocque in her 2009 book "Wolfe Island: A Legacy in Stone":

One of the earliest recorded mishaps involved my great uncle, John Kemp, and six friends: Nathaniel Orr, John Wall, G. WIlson, Leo Cadotte, Albert Davis, and J. C. Daryeau. These men worked farms on Simcoe Island, and, on January 12, 1886, boarded Kemp's sleigh for a trip to Kingston. Although they were careful to use the bushed track, the ice gave way under the load and carried horses, harness, and sleigh to the bottom. Fortunately, the men were saved.
