I was introduced to this location by a friend who placed a Geocache here in 2011 (GC346TH). These ruins are the remains of a Hydro-electric plant built in late 1914 by Powerscourt Hydro-Electric Company to serve the town of Huntingdon Quebec. The building is located on a now dry headrace canal on the Chateauguay River just upstream of the Hamlet of Powerscourt in Hinchinbrooke Township. The Powerscourt power house operated from 1915 until 1926 when ongoing reliability issues associated with ice, flooding, and ultimately, sabotage resulted in the sale of the operation to ShawiniganWater and Power who shut down this facility and began serving Huntingdon with an extension of their own grid. The building then found use as a Sugar Shack supporting the surrounding Maple forest for a period of years. The property was bequeathed to Scouts Canada on the death of the owner in 1959.
