On June 30th 2016 John Brodimas the owner/operator at the Bridge Tavern and Family Restaurant baked his last batch of butter tarts. After owning the Point Edward landmark for 38 years he had simply had enough and hung up his apron. When he purchased the restaurant in the 70's it had already been open for over 20 years and it would grow steadily into the late 80's when they added a 200 seat banquet room. But times change and the anti-smoking bylaws and the new Point Edward casino would spell the beginning of the end for The Bridge. After John closed the restaurant, a false fire alarm brought the fire department there. Then came the building inspector which is when they discovered the structural problems hidden inside. A leaking roof, rotting floor joists and missing or eroded supports were some of the noted problems. The town of Point Edward deemed the building unsafe for human habitation and in July the owners were given less than a month to remedy the problems or tear down the building. Like clockwork the municipality moved in immediately and days after the due date they tore down the Bridge Tavern putting an end to this building, it's history and a soon forgotten era.
