Introduction
TheAlarmGuy • 2 weeks ago
Hello, I am The Alarm Guy, I'm from BC and am an amateur explorer. I used to be pretty active during the pandemic but not so much any more. I am a big security system enthusiast and tinker with different systems in my spare time. If anyone wants information on security systems, I am more than happy to provide information, what you do with that information is not my concern, but I will provide information solely for the purpose of helping people make informed decisions on exploring places. Anyways being new to this community, I am excited to see what others have posted! Cheers.
New to OAP, not new to Urbex
Laurie • 3 weeks ago
Hey! I just round OAP and joined a few days ago. I've been doing this urbex thing for a while and didn't know there was a community. So great to be here. there are lots of helpful tips and some rules that I hope I am following (very excited to post my recent find!) Two questions: how can I change my user name and where can I find the Discord for this group? thx!
want to find locations?
DAExplores • 1 month ago
then dont ask in the forum. those forum posts/comments are boring and don't contribute anything. use your eyes, the website (there are more locations here than you can see. contribute a bit and learn about location levels) and please consider going outside. i will be deleting any of those threads asking for locations made after this one. ill add more in the comments should the need arise. feel free to give some tips on how to find locations in the replies here if you want to, just so this thread doesnt feel entirely pointless, but please do not ask for recommendations or anything for your/a specific region.

Requesting for Level 2
8-Ball • 1 day ago
Not sure exactly how this goes, but I did glance at a couple of the other promotion elections to get a better idea. I pride myself in giving in-depth location write ups providing sufficient history and context on each of my locations, along with with quality photos within the albums. Having a preference to explore at night, I'm sometimes unable to produce the same quality of pictures as I would like to than in the day, but I try my best to provide sufficient lighting and clear photos in all my albums. I like to be active in the community, and I'm hoping to explore quite a bit this summer before I get busier with work/school in september. I'll give a quick rundown of my albums: **Level 1:** 3x Interiors 0x Exteriors **Level 2:** 8x Interiors 2x Exteriors **Level 3:** 8x Interiors 2x Exteriors Not including a private album and a second malt trip, that's the grand total. I feel most of my albums would be considered "quality content", and if there's any advice or tips on to improve I would be open to that as well. ### Thanks for the consideration!

Well, here we go, another guy applying for a Level 2 promotion. My personal goal, regardless of promotion, is to continue going on adventures to access more remote locations, and in terms of OAP, to fill in some of the empty space that currently blankets Northern Ontario. I do my best to take clear, coherent photos that give some sense of a place, even if they aren’t necessarily exceptional from an artistic standpoint. (In fairness note that I broke one album into two to keep it manageable for a location that had two large, distinct parts, but for the purposes of election count it as 28, not 29 albums). If you look through my galleries and locations, you’ll note that I emphasize the “Exploration” much more than the “Urban” in my urbex endeavours. To be honest: you won’t likely see a lot of albums from me that involve dodging active security guards, alarm systems and cameras or the like (though maybe the occasional game camera). What I do offer is those more forlorn, lost in the wild locations. Places off the beaten path, across ruined roads or through the brush. Old mines, bases, railway stops and homesteads. Is it 50kms down some unmaintained road in the middle of nowhere? Perfect. Thanks for your consideration guys!

I believe I more than meet the requirements for Level 2: I have found **six new locations**, one of which is particularly high-profile (Level 4). As well, I have submitted **more than ten albums with interiors**, many of which are Level 2 and 3 with three Level 4's. I don't vandalize the sites, and I do my best to write a detailed description based on the information I can find. While I'm capable of finding new locations (or rediscovering ones that people have already found), I'd like Level 2 access because I prefer to know what kind of hazards I'm dealing with ahead of time. Furthermore, I want to take photos from angles that few people have done - I'm a decent climber and have gotten rooftop pics for some locations that didn't have them. Finally, these climbing skills have helped me obtain interior photos for locations in which the POE's were blocked off. Thanks for reading this! Also something I learned: some albums are earned with blood, sweat, and bruises.

Hey to everybody on this site, I'm currently a level one user hoping to achieve level two. In the requirements to attain level two, it says that one must contribute to 10 albums and find 3 new locations of any level. While I have only contributed to 6 albums, I have found and contibuted to 6 additional locations. I recall seeing another user with a similar predicament be accepted, so I thought I'd give this a shot. On another note, I don't give out locations, nor would I ever dream of vandalizing a place. I try my best to put detailed writing in all of my posts concerning the history, location description and risks involved in exploring said location. In the attainment of level two I would be able to contibute to more places in the Tri-City Region (Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambrige), Guelph and adjacent towns and counties. My only mean of travel is by bike, so I am limited in terms of distance, though I keep going further and try my best. I appreciate any and all consideration of this request, and I'd also appreciate any feedback concerning anything in relation to this application or the content I put out. -nurbexo
Hello guys how you doing? its Imperia and i think i should finally be promoted to level 2. first off, i have 4 lvl 1s, 9 lvl 2s, 1 lvl 3 and 1 lvl 4. i have a lot more locations i am going to visit and post, heck i even have a whole page full of it for a total of 35+ as of now. I usually post in and around mississauga. i explore with my bike solo and love biking down to these places, its like a whole new world especially in the rural areas. i am pretty active on this site and love posting my finds, or just some photos if i can't get in. i will be more active this winter because there is no plants and bugs (my 2 worst enemies while i explore) and i will be able to post more interior photos as well. in conclusion, if i get level 2 i will be able to post more albums which will help out the site and help me post more quality albums.

A good way to find some is to just search around on google earth. Look for places with a lot of plant growth and a place that has a bit of graffiti on it. Look for cracked windows too. Might take a bit of time but it’s worth it.

Do motion detectors automatically signal the police or anyone else when its activated?
Autyy • 2 weeks ago
Do you have any experiance with Wuloo Wireless Driveway Alarm? https://www.wulooofficial.com/products/wuloo-wireless-driveway-alarm-1-1-brown. How well would they be able to see in the dark, if mounted 12 feet up what their range would be, and if theres any way to disable with or without activating them?
Depends on the door: Deadlatches - spring loaded that automatically lock when closed, could use a hook and pick set from your local hardwares store and loid the latch. Deadbolt - if you're good with lockpicks, schlage and kwikset are pretty low tolerance, use a rake pick. If the door opens inwards (which it shouldn't because of fire codes) you could stick a rigid piece of plastic through the door and jimmy the latch out of the way. Most electronic access controls will have a motion detector above the door to unlock it, get a can of computer duster, turn it upside down, and spray near the sensor. from my experience, most installers DO NOT wire "door forced" sensors to the main unit so this shouldn't be a problem, but that's most installers, not all. My last piece of advice: check near the doors for a keypad, chances are that's a security alarm, if you see a red light on a keypad - it's armed and you should not enter. If you do, chances are you could also trip a motion detector and trigger the "cross zone" which is an automatic burglary verification, and law enforcement will be notified immediately. if you can see through doors with windows, look for a little block on the door and frame, this is a magnetic reed sensor.
I think industrial areas would be a good choice. In my hometown, they started putting in live video surveillance so be careful around developments

Oh, additionally, higher level members, please feel free to let me know if you think my location levels seem correct.
Anonymous • 2 weeks ago
Thanks for letting me know.
your 6 locations do count for albums, just so you know.
Additionally, I'm not sure if "3 months of activity" pertains to account creation, time on the site, the first album posted or the actual date the first album's pictures were taken. Once again, I am just trying this out looking for feedback.

still there pretty creepy
I def should’ve- I wore a N95 mask, which is definitely better than nothing, but still not ideal given the state of the place. Didn’t know how poor of a shape it was in until I got in.

If you don't have a half or full face respirator already, I'd get one. Gives you time to find the most gnarly patch of mold and not taste the rot. Get the right filters, good for asbestos too.

Why do all these newer users feel the need to go comment on half decade plus photos and contribute nothing positive or constructive? Be better to be creating content to get stupid answers on your own albums.
