Fairly active area, and there is a public park at the back of the school.
According to aerial photography (which was a pain in the ass to go through), the school itself was finished being built in 1965. The surrounding area was relatively new as well, with an entire neighbourhood in the area practically being built in the 60’s; it being an enormous empty plot of land beforehand. The earliest record I could find with details of the school was in 1986, with the school being home to the Leonardo DaVinci Academy of Arts and Science. Another article in 1986 referenced the Leonardo DaVinci Academy in an article regarding racism in the school system. It gave credit to the DaVinci academy for teaching Italian language and culture, but recognized that it only serves the needs of one cultural group, and the barriers and racism against other groups is still rampant in the school board. Pretty progressive article for the 80’s.
More recently, the school was home to the Holy Angels Catholic School, an elementary school that ranged from kindergarten to grade 6. The school’s final year was the 2023-2024 year, and has since been abandoned. Currently, there are plans to demolish the existing school and build a replacement school on the corner of Jutland Rd & Islington Ave.
