Hope the hardcore aren't offended by this post of historical coolness.

In 2004, the board of the Village of Islington BIA began to allocate part of their tax levies, to fund "The Mural Mosaic Project", a collection of 26 murals along the 5 blocks Dundas W. street, between Islington and Kipling.

The art illustrates actual people, places and events from the past which help viewers today connect to the areas history.
Many of the murals are set in the early 1900s and resemble some actual buildings we have on our database. I think it's very worthy of inclusion here.

To date, artist John Kuna has painted most of the murals but Arts Etobicoke, Creative Village and Sarah Collard have also contributed works.

Those that have kids might find this to be a fun family day trying to locate all 26 as not all are in obvious sight.

Hats off to a neighborhood that cares about preserving its history enough to execute a great project such as this.

Reminds me of a photo from the 1910s-1920s showing the beachfront near Hamilton down on the "boardwalk". Before the steel mills I guess... denser than a city subway... Norman Rockwell is pretty awesome as well...

Great idea for the community, thanks for adding Darkman. I'll have to go have a walk through the area. I spent 4 1/2 years going to school there before they sent me back to my side of the tracks.
