About this location

While driving down Coronation Road in Whitby last summer, I pulled over and checked out a grassy and treed area halfway down the road. I had the sense that a house had once stood there. Little did I know that a village once stood there.

In 1850, Major George FC. deRottenburg sketched out a map of Ontario County. Included on this map was the village of Bagotville. Located on concession 3, lots 30 and 31 Bagotville included a grist mill (foundations still standing), a salt well and a school (photos all below). The community existed until the 1920s at which time it disappeared off the map.

Yes. Also of the sawmill and the gristmill. Be careful walking around, the tall grass is beaten down but there are holes, pits and objects underneath.
