The old Wasaga Speedway.

Opened in 1956 and closed at the end of the 1970 season.

From the aerial view you can see the original 1/2 mile horse track, the 1/4 mile paved oval was built inside of the horse track.

I stumbled upon this location about 14 years ago, it has became a bit of a storage/dump site for the provincial parks. At one point the old life guard towers were dumped off here when Wasaga Beach decided to take lifeguard supervision off the beaches.

The photos are from 2003 but being there a year ago.. nothing has changed. Still a big pile of crushed limestone and our old parking curbs.

The Ghost Speedway is located in a provincial park, and is free to visit. If you follow co-ordinates it will lead you to a spot to pull over by an ORANGE gate and the track is roughly 100meters down the path.

Previous to the speedway, car races were actually held right on the beach, as early as the 1930's. They had thousands of spectators come from miles around to see the races.
