Kodak’s move to Canada
After achieving success in the USA, Kodak Eastman set its eyes on the Canadian market. In 1899 they started the business and opened this building in 1913, purchasing 25 acres of land for 4000$ per acre. And constructed what is today known as Kodak Heights. Kodak was responsible for bringing many memories to a camera roll, as well as being a major leader in cutting-edge technology for that era from Kodak cameras to photos.
Might and capacity of the Kodak establishment
It served as a multipurpose site, for production as well as the main hub of business for Kodak, with several buildings and a 200 feet chimney, serving as a landmark. To meet the needs of the production, more than 50 ton of coal was consumed. The last remaining building of the Eastman Kodak company complex off of Eglinton Ave.
The 4 story office structure has various rooms that are semi-lit through the large windows, serving as an employee building, it contains an auditorium, cafeteria, gymnasium, club room, locker room, and camera studio and has an adjacent lawn bowling green and nowadays lots of graffiti. Closed in 2005, when the company moved its operation to another location.
Kodak building’s current situation
Caution: If you plan to visit the building, you can be charged with illegal trespassing, and with security and police that often parole near the building. It to be noted that even some executives or company men come by here,
However, if you visit it, an N95 mask is recommended, along with proper shoes, as the basement can be a bit muddy or flooded, which may or may not have some hazardous chemicals and molds used by the company.
In 2005, a large percentage of the building was brought down, leaving only the employee building intact. Purchased by Metrolinx, and access to the inside of the building is blocked off, not to say that there aren't any trespassers as you can see a lot of graffiti, both inside and out. However the inside can be very dark with a large hall and a grand staircase, the upper floor has a gymnasium as well. You might find other forms of trespassers, like animals, cats, raccoons, dogs, a lot of crickets, and other kinds of pests.

It's on stilts now as mentioned in the description... Would be cool to see what it looks like in 10 years. I'm surprised they kept it to be honest.
Renovations have begun. Yet somehow no one was around Saturday afternoon and a poe was easily found. Gotta love it.
That's crazy! Definitely didn't think there were that many. Gotta get to this place even more now.
There was a segment on ctv news this week about all the abandonments in Toronto, there's like 5000. They showed this kodak #9 building. The fire departments are inspecting them all and rating their danger levels and will be sealing them up until their fates are determined.
seems like this place goes from closed to open so often i can never really decide whether or not i wanna make the trip out and take the chance :(
Good getting in there folks. I used to live around the corner from the building and remember when they shut down.
Security was there this past weekend parked on site right by the stairs leading from Eglinton.
My husband about pi$$ed himself in the basement when we saw a huge raccoon run by. All I could do was laugh and laugh.....At him.
I was there today and there is absolutely no way in. They've used 20+ screws per board at each entrance and even sealed the cracks around the boards with caulking. Plenty of City of Toronto trucks around and no one bothered to chase us away.
Def hitting this one next month when I go up for a concert, hope to hit a couple others as well. I've been interested in this one for quite some time, I came across it on the net somewhere else a while ago. The staircase is beautiful!
Access is easy. Note: There's is an inch or two of ice on the auditorium floor. When the temperature rises this place is going to get super wet. If you're planning on visiting, I would go while it's still frozen. A lot less shhtincky when things are iced up.

Went here last week, really love the point of entry! That's a fun one. Sneaky, too. I would go now before spring thaw or the basement might be a bit much. Even with respirators we found it rather unaccommodating. The dead raccoons don't help things much either. Definitely reccomend.

So I guess I was on crack when you said you were hitting Ontario Place this Sunday (the comment is now gone). And you didn't also give specific info on Westwood. Or here. That's my point. I don't care what your nickname is lol. Just helpful advice. Take it or leave it.
@ sneak...divulging a poe on a public location hardly makes one sneaky, no? This location shows up in searches. You also mentioned where you'd be next Sunday on a public location. Maybe want to delete those comments.
I heard something about an underground tunnel... Or are those just rumours? I have a rather soft spot for those (tunnels, not rumours, heh) :P
There's actually a way in, I put up a map on the side of the building that shows where to go. As for signs, that's the risk with any place. There are cars parked at the end of the old highway, but I've never seen anyone come out from them.
Gloves are very useful as well as a mask. There's a dead raccoon in the upper floors and what appears to be a makeshift sleeping area for someone upstairs. Either long ago or recent.
Here's a real update... The trailers on the south end of the property (on the No Frills side of the overpass) are there for the construction happening just up the road on Eglinton. Building 9 has not changed much since my previous visit 1 yr ago and the ruins of the other buildings are pretty much the same as well. Doesn't look like its going anywhere anytime soon :)
They had the name and made the first digital camera, but failed to realize its potential until it was too late.
Re: "that-girl" Yes the basement definitely has both mold and asbestos everywhere! Be careful what you touch and move down there!
BTW, me and my friends scowered the whole building pretty much and would like to say that if you go into the basement be forewarned that there is a disgusting odor... We saw what looked like janitor buckets filled with old dirty water, the basement could quite possibly be infested with mould
Went to this place with some friends it was pretty cool... The graffiti'd walls were quite interesting to say the least, definitely looks like many people come to hang out at this place
My first visit to the Kodak building. It was.....well ...trashed ahahahlol.....but still exciting and interesting to check out. All my photos of this place were shot with, Kodak Max400 film. More pics can be viewed on my flickr account.
Drove by the site on Friday. The building is still there, just as it is in my photos. Very cool still, but the basement is still super sketchy. Bring a flashlight for sure, no matter what time of day you go.

Looks like construction is just about done. Maybe change it to repurposed?
