A few headstones here grabbed my attention. The Hiram family lost a 21 year old son and four infant children. The other headstones' story was told by the close dates of death. February 20th, 23rd and March 1st and an infant son in 1864. Given the time of year I would suspect one had a deadly virus and then passed it on. Such a loss for one family to take at on time. Their bodies are probably spread out in this tiny forest behind and their headstones brought out and placed together before they were lost.

Yes very sad and those were the deseases I couldnt remember, thanks Spydrgyrl. It must have been brutal to get a doctor to some of these parts, but then it was too early for a cure anyway, I believe. Its amazing any of us are here today.

Cholera, scarlet fever and diphteria could wipe out all the children in a household within two weeks back in those days. I've seen this same thing up in Haliburton. Five gone in two weeks. So sad.
