Goldie Mill

This is believed to be the first sawmill in Guelph. It was originally built in 1827. The building burned in 1864 and James Goldie bought the remains and rebuilt it in 1867, turning it into a flour mill, producing 80 000 barrels of flour per year. It was still in use into the 20th century by the Goldie family. It burned down once again in 1953 while being used as a warehouse. The government restored the building and opened it as a park in 1984. It is now used for concerts, art shows and other functions. There is a plaque on the outer wall describing the history.

My camera(a)s batteries died after only 5 pictures. I hope to return in the near future and will post more pictures. There was so much more to see, including the river where the mill got it(a)s power from, and an old iron and wood bridge.
