I realize this area is already posted under Michipicoten Harbour but this post is slightly different. Previous post is on the historic significance of the harbour.
This post is on the destruction and evacuation of the small village that was situated there.
The Municipality of Wawa made a Declaration of Emergency in October of 2012 due to heavy rainfall in the area. There was major flooding. This past July I was in the area and caught these few photos.
Road is washed away, therefore it has been blocked with a "No trespassing" sign. However, parking to the side you are able to enter the village by foot if you choose to ignore signs. After all, I am just a curious tourist who just wants to take some photos.
There was no evidence of anyone in the area. Village seems abandoned. If you feel you must enter this disaster zone please look and, take photos and leave with nothing untouched. Do not take anything or loot or enter any of these houses. These people left their homes in a hurry during a crisis. All their belongings left behind. They lost everything.

This site was first constructed in about 1900 for shipping Iron Ore. It remained active until the mines played out in about 1920. In the 30's it became a coal depot and remained active until the 1950's. After the mining/shipping declined a small community of homes remained until a recent flood (about 2013) destroyed the remaining homes. These photos were made in November 2015.

This is not where Buck's Marina is or the Indian Reserve. Somewhere inbetween. Just down the road from Sandy Beach. It's where the old harbour is. Map is correct.
Is this the actual village of Michipicoten? If so, then the map is incorrect. I have been here many times and absolutely love this area. What a shame to see the destruction.

Nice job from you pictures to your description. A sad state for all those that have lost so much.
