This coordinate marks off the exact location of the east entrance of the St. David's Tunnel, found on the property of Royal Niagara Golf course. This filled and sealed tunnel carried the Old Road to St. David's under the Third Welland Canal. The 1886 drawings of the tunnel indicate it was sealed during or shortly after the construction of the 4th Welland Canal around 1932. This is not the Blue Ghost Tunnel, nor is it another nearby short tunnel under the Grand Trunk Railway (See location 5971). Those are close and often confused with the St. David's tunnel but are not on the golf course property. Visiting this location is a one-shot wonder, as all you get to see here is the forgotten, overgrown entrance. Unlike the Blue Ghost Tunnel, this one was completely filled and then sealed with a solid plug of concrete. And the west entrance of the tunnel is submerged underneath a swamp now and cannot be photographed. Bonus shots in the gallery are of the decrepit, mangled remains of a car that can be found dumped in the old canal a short distance away. Exact coordinates for the car are: 43.140062°, -79.179015°. To access it, you have to head south from the tunnel entrance, cross the old train bridge, and walk north along a path on the western side of the old canal. LOCATION HAZARD: "Angry, hoity-toity golfers".
