Question about non-typical photos of Level 1's
ArcAngel • 1 week ago
I was wondering how one should handle posting photos of things tagged as level 1's if you have photos that would potentially no longer meet that criteria (e.g. photos from inside a publically accessible thing that you are not *generally* permitted into)?
New user with tier 4 location
KeyHb • 1 month ago
Hey, I have a tier 4 location that I went to a bunch of times. I'm afraid that posting it as a level 1 account will compromise the space. What should I do? PSA: the location is an abandoned office with a chemistry lab, incredibly intact, chemical equipment is still there.
Question on getting caught
romxn • 1 month ago
Hi everyone, I almost have enough confidence to finally urban explore after watching it on youtube for 2 years, but I have one question about if I get caught. Assuming I am caught by police and not a property owner, does the consequence I face fully depend on the officer? I know i can mitigate the potential consequences by not carrying anything that would suggest me doing worse activities like weapons etc. Is it just a gamble essentially if I get a warning or a charge? On a side note, i was thinking to explore the Anaconda Brass in etobicoke, would this be an okay beginner spot?
Toronto Exploring
Dre • 2 months ago
Hey I'm new here, but not new to exploring, taking risks that kind of thing. I'm from Brampton (now live in Kitchener) and am familiar with downtown Toronto, but not as much as I'd like to be. Does anyone here know some cool spots? One thing Id love to try is to get to Lower Bay station sometime

Hey OAP Community, I’m writing to respectfully request a promotion to Level 2. I believe I’ve met the current requirements, with over three months of active participation, four documented locations, and 15 albums uploaded featuring a variety of sites and content levels. I also have many more albums in the pipeline, ready to be shared with the community. I first got into urbex back in October. At the time, I struggled to find quality locations, but being part of this community has helped me grow significantly in both knowledge and experience. I’ve worked hard to contribute meaningful content, and I’m excited to keep exploring and sharing more. Thank you for considering my request, and I appreciate everything this community has done to support my urbex journey. Best regards, JMacUrbex

I usually get my locations through word of mouth and g earth scouting, but now that I moved all of that got harder. Been doing this for 5 years but I guess why not give back to a community :) (plus I've been gatekeeping all my pics for way too long) I put some nice albums up that I hope you appreciate, can't wait to meet and maybe even explore with some of you all.

Re-applying for level 3, I understand I have not met the requirements last time but I think I do now, ill give a quick break down of my contributions: 70 interior locations 4 exterior locations 200 interior albums 4 exterior albums (you can see the levels of my locs on the side panel) I also got a proper camera with which I am still learning new things about how to use it, but overall my photos are a lot better now and over half of my albums are with that camera so no more blurry grainy shots. but yep thats pretty much it, not much else to say, i hope you consider my re-application, and btw if you want to read more about how I explore and how I started, then you can look at my denied application, I wrote a bunch of stuff there.

Being apart of the OAP community for the last 9 months has definitely been.. interesting to say the least xD I am a bit sad that most (basically all) of you live across the country so I haven't been able to meet up with anyone *yet*, but I have made some friendships over discord which is great! I've been exploring for as long as I can remember (really got more into it around 7 years ago), but was never really interested in the photography aspect of the hobby until joining the site and looking through old albums. I also lived my life with only thoughts and wonder of what a location could've been rather than spending hours trying to dig up history behind it. I reside 4hrs away from the closest major city, which is why most of my finds are old farm properties. I do have a long(ish) list of locations ranging from BC, AB & SK I am beyond excited to make trips for though:D Anyways, I look forward to the feedback and thanks for reading a sliver of my backstory & nightshift rambling lol.

I forgot that I know the quality in my earlier albums was not great. I have begun using a real camera, so the quality will increase once i get to uploading those albums.
that was supposed to be a thumbs down oops

I think the abandoned rails you photographed are actually from the CN Beach subdivision which ran parallel to the HRER for some time. If you were really curious you should be able to look for a date stamp on the rails.

alright, if you insist. you gotta write a good description for it then
It's an access line, that is no longer in use, that cuts under the 401 and has been discontinued since the fall railway trafic in the 1970s. It's mid 1900s history that also displays the differences in bridge building from early 1900s to the creation of the 401. The line itself is completely inaccessible in summer do to the rivers that now run on either side of the line and floods the entire line. I realise it isn't a closed off building, but the historical value of investigating an area that is unnoticed/ inaccessible by the general public, that has historical purpose, and is from a time long passed seems to be a more common factor then a difference on this site. The fact that it still connects to the main line, at a main CN terminal and goes unnoticed, should also qualify.
railway spurs don't really fit the site tbh

There was a hole in the fence, right next to the bushes, when I went. Barring that, it should be trivial to climb around it.
DAExplores • 1 year ago
maybe. the side they were on was open when I went, and I wasn't there too long ago. they could've just sealed off both sides, and it's only a matter of waiting

Fence on the other side should be open

Kim Casey from Nipigon has a book called "Thunder Bay District's True Murder Investigations (1885-2016)", and has a story about a killing that took place in Tashota in 1932. It gives some detail about the town. The murder occurred in the grocery store owned by the accused's mother, who was in a relationship with the victim James Rowlandson. Also mentioned were a bunkhouse and a restaurant where the victim was drinking that night and the telegraph office where a call was made to police. The accused was 16 years old and was ultimately found not guilty due to circumstances. It also mentioned the area was over run by gold prospectors during the time. It is an interesting book. So there is a little history on Tashota.

I remember those big white plastic seats in the malls main hall. I was just a kid when I last sat in those. My family also made good use of the No Frills in the mall.
