History of Trillium Railway Grantham Spur

The railway was originally built by the NS&T in 1897 and was used until 1959 when all NS&T trackage was handed over to CN. The line originally connected to the yard at Merritton and went all the way down to Port Dalhousie, while also having multiple other lines that branched out towards Thorold, downtown St. Catharines, Ontario Street, and Niagara On The Lake. In the late 1990's Trillium Railway took over and served customers in the industrial sector of St. Catharines until the final train in March 2024. At the time of abandonment the tracks only went was far as Welland Ave.

This is what remains of the former NS&T Grantham division through St. Catharines. Work crews have already begun removing the tracks between Hartzel Rd. and Lincoln Ave.
