Hazards
There isn't really any hazards here other then squatters as they seem to sleep here and also hang out here. The one part of the ruins are fenced off and in the summer the weeds and grass get long behind the fence.
About this location
In this park lies these remnants of the Third Welland Canal which was built between 1872 and 1887 to replace the outdated Second Canal. It was in use until 1932 and much of the canal in this area was filled in under the park such as Lock 6. But remnants of the former rail swing bridge still sit in the park. The remnants are made out of concrete and stone and have been siting for years in a state of decay. In 2024 a new development plan for the park was approved. The plan includes construction of a new pedestrian bridge and observation deck over the swing bridge remnants. They will also add new wayfinding and historical markers for the buried canal.
