Colt House

I caught a glimpse of a house today way out across a field and just knew it was a treasure. I went around the corner looking for what might be access and could only find a lane going into a field. From this side you could not see the house at all. I parked at the end of the lane, out in the middle of nowhere, and still could not see the house. I put on my backpack and grabbed my tripod for a short hike. I was near a bush and thought it must be there somewhere. No house yet but I kept walking and then saw it in the next field in another bush.

The area is pretty overgrown and I am sure glad I wore bug repellent. As with many of these old farm houses, the summer kitchen has no basement so I was confident entering that area. The floors in the rest of the house have not yet collapsed but the center of the house has sunk at least a foot. I was feeling like taking that kind of risk today so I shot from there into the rest of the house, at least as far as I could see. I did get one shot through a window. Not sure why I did not try the other windows.

There is an old well, reasonably obvious, and the remnants of a small outbuilding. Likely a garage. On google maps I see what may be a silo or something but I did not see it from the house. The was an old hubcap from a 71/72 Dodge/Mitsubishi Colt.

You can see what is left of a small porch on the back and a large area overgrown with ferns. I think another visit in the spring is certainly warranted.
