This area was known as Logan Township when German immigrants first settled here in the mid 1800s. Most of these Brodhagen pioneers, came from the northern provinces of Germany, like my grandfather. When they arrived they cleared dense forest to make homes and roads. The first congregation in 1885, was so large that services were held at two schools until a white frame 60x30 church was built in 1867, at a cost of $1200. The two large tower bells were cast in Ohio and stamped 1889 and also had names. The larger bell was Mary and the smaller bell Martha and are in the second church[here]. In 1869 the cemetery behind the church was established but previously were held on school[S.S. No.4] grounds[I have to find these] since 1858. An acre of land was purchased in 1877 for many sheds on the edge of the cemetery. In 1904 , more sheds were built across the road until 1938 they were replaced by one big one. People still used horses in winter here, long after cars were invented. In 1951 the shed became a rink. In 1921 this larger church[active] was built named in front; EV Lutherische St. Petri Kirche Erbaut[St. Peters Lutheran]n 1921 Logan , at a cost of $45,000. It had a Delco Electric lighting system at $1500. The acre cemetery behind the church was dedicated Gods Acre[1869] in a snowstorm where many took part. This congregation has 569 buried in three places, over the years. In 1927 , all the flat headstones were placed in a cross, in the middle .
