School Section number and year unknown, Moncrieff ON........................ The old school plaque is probably hidden by the front addition? or it was removed and a wood community hall sign put in it's place :(. This should have been kept and is rarely missing but sometimes just covered. The Presbyterian church, next door, now a private residence[last picture], was built in 1911 and this school was probably built close to that. An investigation turned up little but is similar to a few schools I have seen during this time period. It is probably the largest old country school I have seen and with a huge basement. Kids probably had to get up very early as they probably travelled far and some schools started at 7am back then! The bars on the window on the side door have the screws on the outside, suggesting it was to protect the window and not the need for security, back in the day, way out here. Ya, not like now.......................................................................................................... Now a community hall, this place is used rarely by the size of this community. Moncrieff has always been a small place but it had two sawmills, down the road, and a flour mill at one time. I have found it odd, though, that there is no cemetery here, not even a small one, :( , and the closest I found was Cranbrook ON., 11km away. I hope it's not a forgotten part of some farmers field, but it has happened, [I have found one so far], until the county discovers this oversight, and makes it right.
