Charles Sheard Mansion

Demolished Mansion in Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Recent status Demolished
Location # 12781

Built in 1865 this large and beautiful house was owned solely by the Sheard family, immigrants from England. The head of the family Joseph Sheard once the mayor of Toronto and a public works architect built many buildings in the city as well as had a hand in the designing of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa. Charles Sheard his son, helped modernize health practices in the city. Playing a very important part in it's history. In more recent years this house was divided into several apartments and offices. In 2011 it was purposed that this heritage home was to be torn down to make room for a 50 story condominium however I believe this was declined and the mansion spared. As of now the building is up for lease.

Although the front porch is home to many junkies and burnouts, I highly recommend getting inside when the unsavory characters are out and about for the house is packed with room after room of interest and is really a gorgeous space.
