Five Points Mall has been going downhill for a long time, but the death knell really sounded when the much-touted & anticipated Target folded up its tents and left town. The Target space has sat empty since, despite rumours that Canadian Tire or Walmart would open a location there. While Walmart did take over some former Target/Zellers locations, Five Points was not one of them.
Since then, the mall has steadily been bleeding tenants, including Hallmark, New York Fries, clothing stores, a pet store, and hairdressers, just to name a few. Now, although the mall is not technically "abandoned", it most certainly is a dead mall. The few remaining tenants I saw open have until the end of August to vacate their spaces. Some moved to the outdoor portion of the mall, while others have either closed for good or relocated elsewhere. The one remaining anchor (Metro) is planning to stay right where they are, thank you very much.
By December of this year, demolition of the indoor portion of the mall will have started, so if you want to check this one out, you had better hurry! While I was there, I got some curious looks from one or two of the remaining merchants, but security walked right past me twice while I was taking pictures, and didn't say a word. This is definitely an interesting one, & I'm glad I had the opportunity to see it at just the right time; just before the patient is completely deceased, but before the burial.

The 5 roads there in the 1800s used to come together at Ritson and Taunton (hence the name "5 Points")
So reminds me of Warden Woods Mall, (Warden Ave at St. Clair Ave.) in Scarborough. It ended up as a dead mall. Now townhouses and Condos.
Reminds me of the decline of Morningside mall years ago. When Walmart bailed to a larger location, the mall dwindled one by one. Great post btw.

Always hated this mall. Gave me deep feelings of despair being in it.
