Hazards of Shanty Bay Go-Karts

The building is affected by water damage, mold, and poor air quality. The upstairs floor is unstable, with noticeable sagging near the back entrance to the party room. Additionally, there is asbestos.

Shanty Bay Go-Karts has had a long history, originally opening in the 1960s for Go-Karting. Inside, you could find Horne's Restaurant and a Gas Bar. Over the years, the building saw various businesses come and go, including ProPower, a company that specialized in converting vehicles to propane, operating alongside the gas station.

Before its abandonment, Shanty Bay Go-Karts housed a McDonald's and a Coffee Time. Additionally, a convenience store was located on-site, with apartments situated upstairs. Coffee Time left in 2009, McDonald's left in 2015, and the convenience store left in 2019. This led to the closure and abandonment of the whole property, including the Go-Karting.

In terms of current conditions, the Go-Kart track itself remains in good shape, showing minimal overgrowth. However, the building has fell into extreme decay. After just a few years, It is affected by water damage, mold, and poor air quality, and the upstairs floor is unstable, with noticeable sagging near the back entrance to the party room. Additionally, there is asbestos.

Many people, even those who aren't urban explorers, visit the track occasionally, which is over 1km long. It was one of the longest tracks in the area at its time.
