Built in 1878, this 140 year old home known as Dorindale was demolished in the fall of 2018 to new development. Named after the former longtime resident, Dorinda (Dinnie) Greenway who lived at the house until a fire took her horse barn earlier this year. Greenway was known for being an avid horse rider and was known for competing at a very high level, even hunting on horseback for more than 80 years. The home has hosted lavish society garden parties and greyhound races on its sprawling grounds. Unfortunately the home did not meet the criteria for historical designation because of its many additions and renovations. After the fire the estate was handed over to Drewlo Holdings who had purchased the property more than 30 years ago but negotiated a “life tenancy” meaning she could remain in the home for as long as she liked. When i visited the property most of the trim and woodwork had been stripped from the house. The barn still contained some odds and ends including ribbons and memorabilia from Mrs Greenway's horse riding past. Another soon to be forgotten piece of our heritage and history. Follow the link provided below for a more accurate history of Mrs Greenway and Dorindale, including ties to a former Prime Minister of Canada.
