Hazards of Morrison Wedgewood Diversion Channel

Hazards include flooding (during or after heavy rains), bugs, and any people that may be walking along the bridges above it. East of trafalgar road, there is a trail that follows this channel, and if you are walking along in those areas, there could be passerbys that see you. There are also quite a lot of plants and trees that won't prevent you, but may impede your path. Once you get to the flat area, you will have to get your feet wet and you also may slip.

History of Morrison Wedgewood Diversion Channel

This is a 2.5 million dollar flood diversion channel built in 1967 by Conservation Halton to protect the newly developed areas in south Oakville flooding from the rivers that flowed down from upper Oakville. It is just over 4km long and diverts water from residential areas north of the QEW west towards Sixteen Mile Creek, where the water then flows down to Lake Ontario.

This flood diversion channel flows from the forested area between 8th line and 9th line called Iroquois Shoreline park all the way towards Sixteen Mile creek. West of trafalgar road, there is a fence gating the channel, while east of trafalgar road, there is a trail that goes along it. Once you reach Sixth Line, the channel goes from sloped at the sides to flat, with high walls that you won't be able to climb out of and beams over the top of it. The beams end after it starts curving again, and from there it just goes all the way to sixteen mile creek. At the end of the channel, it goes down a slope and into a pool of water that is probably around 5 feet deep, with concrete piers in it designed to slow the flow, before it goes into a smaller natural river flowing towards Sixteen Mile Creek.

this is a channelized creek more than a drain, but if you go up this to around trafalgar, there's a short ish drain that leads to mccraney (I think) that has been called "Suburban Fascism" by AOTU.
