Hazards of Versorgungslager Munition Lahn

I visited this place in 2013, so this is based on my recollection and probably doesn't represent the location's current state.

That said, it was not a particularly hazardous location aside from the rubble inside and out presenting tripping or ankle-twisting risks, and a couple of open drops from the second story of the guard quarters.

It is possibly still used to store fireworks so that could present other risks.

History of Versorgungslager Munition Lahn

Excerpt from Relikte.com, where you can read the complete write-up:

"The special ammunition depot was operated jointly by the US Army and the German Armed Forces. In August 1963, the 552nd US Army Artillery Group moved from Lüdenscheid to the Mühlenberg barracks in Sögel. The 162nd US Army Ordnance Company was assigned to it. Its soldiers were the US government's agents. Without their cooperation, access to the nuclear weapons would not have been possible. Maintenance work and minor repairs to the warheads also fell within their area of responsibility."

Found my old photos while digging through a harddrive.

A local friend took me to see this location back when I first visited Germany in 2013.

We left a munitions testing site just outside of Meppen and drove there. As is obvious from the photos, it was dark by the time we got there, which made for some cool eerieness, but also for arguably lesser photos.

The place was pretty quiet and deserted, but laden with graffiti.
