History
This transformer house was decomissioned around 2013, where the site was first offered to the City of Toronto's Parkland Acquisition Unit before hitting the open market. With no budget available, the City passed and the land went to a private developer instead.
The developer made multiple attempts to build on the site and got refused multiple times. The woodland on the western half of the property is part of Toronto's Natural Heritage System and connects directly into Brookbanks Park, making any meaningful construction almost impossible without destroying protected trees and violating the Official Plan's Natural Areas designation.
Considering the circumstances, and with the city currently having no interest in buying the land back, it would make no sense for the developer that currently owns it to demolish it with no return, so this building will probably keep sitting.
About this location
Was surprised to see a couch in here but there's no evidence of squatters. Other than the water dripping from the ceiling, it's a nice place to chill if you don't mind sitting on abandoned furniture.
