The Hillside Church built and opened in 1877. This small church sits quietly in the small Hillside community. Hillside church hasn(a)t had a worship service here for many years. It is now part of the Scarborough Historical Society. The name Hillside started back in the early 1800(a)s when a local mill owner William A. Milne built a large house on a hillside of the Rouge River Valley. The large house or as many called it a mansion still sits on the hillside to this day as well. Many people from this area{Sewell(a)s, Reesor(a)s, Pearce family and others} took worship here for over 50 years. Both exterior and interior of the Hillside Church remain the same as they were when it was built. The cemetery is located right beside the church on the east-side. I got a few shots of the cemetery but no close shots as I didn(a)t want to disturb the graves. Pearse, Clark, Crawford, and Beare are all the names on the stones that I could see from where I stood. After I had left the property someone had approached me and stated that It was bad to take photos of graves. I told him that I was very interesting in the old community and the families that once lived here. So this is why I took the shots.

Some info was pulled from the plaque which sits outside of the church and some info from the web. You can read the plaque for a little more info.
Enjoy!

I mean to go every year so I can see the inside... I've missed it since 2007. Hopefully 2015 is the year and I'll take a few pictures.

According to a sign out front of the church, they do sometimes use it for service still. The next service will be September 14, 2014 I think.
