About this location

Found this place on a drive by .I didn't think there was any access till i got to the back it was wide open. What i found inside was surprising . There were family photos baby pictures diplomas , personal stuff you would not just leave behind . Looking at the snap shots after when i got home i could see the house belonged to a Mrs Lee a older women at least 90 years old . She was probably all alone in that house . So so sad :(

SEP '13 edit from Doom: I visited this place last year with RnR and Jerm. Was an enjoyable visit with scads of things to sift through within the walls. Prevailing themes were the space program, aliens, and G-o-d. Everywhere. From what I can tell, Esther Gladstone (born 1893) married Arthur Lee (perhaps the fellow in my first gallery in picture 2 8). Esther had graduated from the Moodie Bible Institute of Chicago in 1923. Arthur was a minister. They had three children, that being Gordon, Donald and Dorothy. Esther lived to be at least 87...that's all I have for now. The household was steeped in religion, and the artifacts of their lives are numerous and of this nature.

WHERE THE DISCLAIMER COMES INTO IT: For my return visit, I thought I'd dig into details rather than focus on the actual house when shooting. Ground State and the doomette were with me. We started the process of going through the minutiae of the house, still full of Lee possessions despite being more trashed this time around. Ground called me over and we were shocked at what was revealed in a stack of carefully put together scrapbook pages and mounted photos...there was already evidence of strange things having been common at the Lee residence, but this confirmed that something had indeed been very wrong...for example, there are bizarre messages painted on the barn written perhaps by Donald or in the third person (Gordon painted this...Gordon cleaned up that...) and on the house pertaining to the fire (see galleries). Scrapbooks revealing an obsession with the early space programs, aliens and miracles and others full of religious things and Gordon's comments. I found a scrapbook revealing Gordon had an obsession with at least two female newscasters back in the late 70's to early 80's. She replied to him at least twice.

But it was the photos of torture porn...animals trapped, eviscerated, skinned, gutted, decapitated...geese, possums, coons...it distracted us even as it fascinated and disgusted us.

There is certainly more to the story which can and should be delved into. Jerm has a good write up on his blog...check that out as well. Apologies for anyone offended by the pics...but they are part of the house, the history, the people who lived and died there. And the animals.

Edit by f.o.s. August 2014 Ground State (after much pleading) finally agreed to take me here and it lived up to my expectations. When we arrived I understood his reluctance to revisit and concern that we not be discovered...the place is a treasure! We parked quite a distance and were not seen, so we were able to spend quite some time inside. I was able to shed some light on the disturbing animal photos. I believe that Gordon Lee was much like many of us...a hobby photographer who has a penchant for taking pics of dead things. I think his waterfowl were actually killed by wildlife, not him, and there is evidence that he collected some creatures from the side of the highway...which is still pretty bizarre. Judge for yourself.

no graffiti, but certainly some damage to this place with most of the belongings scattered on the floor. certainly a lot of ephemera to comb through and most definitely worth a visit!

I’ve returned to this location today, this time the trip was cut short as we discovered recent footprints & camping lantern still lit in the attic... we didn’t get a chance to see what else was there as we got out pretty quick after seeing the light.. someone might be staying there?

Visited here today, a nasty raccoons hiding somewhere in the house that was not happy with us being there, definitely watch out for it if you visit

Thx bud, I hope my hunch is right about him, but we'll never really know.

FOS: A well-deserved archiving of some of the history here. Given his penchant for the same, and missing out on the digital format by some decades, I am sure Lee would be proud.

Ground State and I recently visited this place, where I discovered evidence which may yet exonerate the scandalized image of dear Gordon.

I think Arthur died in 1971, and I think they had a fourth child named WALTER who died when he was 6 years old in 1938.

"Sad to see the state of this place" "the top of the pump in the kitchen is however missing" Oh the joys of having an online database of abandonments!

Sad to see the state of this place through mamascreamies set. I have thought of this place a few times since my visit and hoped it would stay intact. Looks like a stready stream of people has taken its toll..much like everyones favourite cat lady house. I'm glad to have been here when I did.

Essentially everything remains the same; the top of the pump in the kitchen is however missing... :(
