Six families took farm lots on a rock hill just east of the Nipissing Rd. at the end of Rock Hill Rd.. It was located just straight west of Starrat and Royston. Their farms were surrounded by swamp and trees.

They did not have a church or school so they used nearby Starrat(a)s. Their post office ran from 1894-1908. Like Royston, all that remains is their pioneer cemetery, which is said to be located at Lot 7, Concession 4 online.

A Rock Hill Rd. leads east from the Nipissing Rd. but ends just past a creek bridge in the middle of nowhere (this is where the center of the community existed); also, a road leads west from Starrat and also ends in a dead end. These roads once connected. Check this old map to see: http://maps.library.utoronto.ca/datapub/digital/G3522_A4_506_1946.htm

The photos below are as follows:

  1. Rock Hill road, on the way in.
  2. Looking downriver at the bridge in the centre of town.
  3. The newest version of the ATV/snow machine bridge.
  4. Old timbers found at the edge of the clearing, possible remains of a structure.
  5. A small dugout area, about the size of a garden shed.
  6. Difficult to make it out, but this is a square timber on the ground beside a corduroy road.
  7. The clearing of the main community site.
  8. More timbers, remains of another structure.
  9. Remains of a previous bridge.
  10. Another dugout, this one much larger, size of a small cabin.

Visited on Thanksgiving Day, 2011. Got in to the end of the road and was met by a large and spectacular steel gate, complete with No Trespassing and Private Property, signs making it impossible to continue. I believe the townsite itself was slightly west of the "end of the "road" where the trail crosses the river. A new ATV/snowmachine bridge marks this spot. There are some rotting timbers in t
