About this location

About 10 years ago, Ann_Faith did a fantastic write up for the ghost town of Ball's Falls proper (aka Glen Elgin). Her location entry focuses on the settlement itself, where one can find some historic homes, a blacksmith, an old mill, and a lime kiln. It's worth checking out her entry here:

The remains of the 1824 upper mill prove more difficult to find, as they are in a forested area ¼ mile upstream. Therefore, this current entry is a specific GPS tag to target those ruins for hikers to find them.

Built onto a 60 foot bluff overlooking the creek, the mill housed 8 looms that produced cloth and yarn. It was run by water diverted from above the falls.  If you follow the depression to the west of the ruins, you can walk along the route where water was diverted and find a few other building ruins set back quite a ways from the creek.

As of summer 2021, the Conservation Authority has instituted an $8 admission fee to park and use the trails at this location.
