This school was built in the year 1955 with only 2 classrooms. And in 1959 it had some renovations which added two more. But in the 1960s the enrollment was declining. which was one of the reasons it closed. Another reason was because in July, 1970 a new school In Niagara Falls was built called F J Rutland Public School. Which they wanted to combine the two together. And in June 1970 the school board closed the school. After that the building was used as a community center, until a fire in a bathroom the following year caused significant damage, and repairs were too costly. The property was sold to a local farmer who used the building for agricultural storage for decades. Which kept the building safe from demolition. A few years ago vacant land in the area was rezoned for a new hospital, which made the owner wanna clean it out and sell the land.
Here you have a unique opportunity to explore an elementary school that has been abandoned and relatively untouched for 50 years. In a very unusual circumstance, it survived the decades without being demolished because a farmer bought the land and used the school for agricultural storage, shuttering it up so well that it didn't even look like a school any longer. It was literally so stuffed full of old hay and farm equipment that it was completely unexplorable.
Recently, a large tract of rural land on the outskirts of Niagara Falls has been zoned for a new hospital. That plan has caused nearby land owners to reassess their sudden real estate fortunes. With the schoolyard here a potential goldmine, the owner cleaned and sold the property, returning the interior of the school to its bare bones for the first time in half a century.
