Hazards

It's an island, you'll need a boat, standard boating safety rules apply.

The island has a couple of nice landings and there's little in the way of risks or hazards beyond common sense.

History

This article goes into much more depth than I can:

Short version is that in the 50s a man built this concrete pool and a small cabin on this island, hauling all the materials himself, and even set up a system to pipe water from a smaller, higher spring fed lake to the east, running pipes all the way to the island.

The story goes that his wife did not like swimming in the lake.

Apparently after the man's death the little cabin was demolished and pushed into the pool and burned.

About this location

I missed this one the last time I was on Raven Lake, so I went back.

A derelict pool wouldn't be all that interesting if it was in a more "normal" place, but on a random island like this, with the odd little story behind it, it just piques my fancy.

It's not hard to get to, and there's a fire pit so it could be a great little camp spot. The lake offers a lot of them really, particularly to the south, but this one, being an island, is relatively mosquito free.

We put a pool in your lake so you can swim while you swim

An abandoned concrete swimming pool, constructed decades ago by an industrious cottager on an island, supposedly because his wife didn't like to swim in the lake.
