Abandoned stone house and garage somewhere outside of Arkell. Appears to have been abandoned for some time, but there are also indicators of more-recent activity - a smart electric meter and some exterior lighting have been installed (and are clearly more recent than the abandonment), and there are modern cleaning products scattered around (as if someone was trying to clean up the damage but never really got anywhere with it). The interior is mostly empty (only the stuff that was bolted down was left behind), but there's a beautiful old cast-iron stove (70 years old or more) at center stage in the kitchen. The upper level is completely empty, but there's some very pretty and detailed old wallpaper (badly deteriorated in places, unfortunately) in the main hallway. The cellar isn't terribly interesting (only contains some utility machinery and not much else). The garage contains assorted knickknacks, and appears to have been used as a general-purpose storage space.
Hazards include the broken glass everywhere (every single window has been smashed), as well as detectable whiffs of mould in the cellar and some parts of the house. There's also a sign on the back door warning about asbestos (very possible, given the apparent age of the house). The house itself still seems sound, but I thought I felt some give in the floors in a few places (especially on the stairs), and there's a hole cut in the floor near the front door for an unknown reason. The biggest hazard, though, is probably the barbecue-style propane tank sitting in the garage, rusting quietly away - the garage is interesting, but use extreme caution around it. There's also a slight entrapment hazard - there's an open manhole kind of thing at the back of the house (septic tank?) that you can fall into if you're not careful.

Looks like the Guelph/Rockwood area has a serial arsonist roaming around - this place is the third abandoned farmhouse that's been hit in the last few weeks.
Paid it another visit today, and I was so sad... apparently, the local vandals have finally discovered the place, and they did a real number on it. All the boards have been ripped out, all the windows are smashed, and they even made a decent go of trying to wreck that beautiful cast-iron stove :(
Yup everything is gone. Didn't check the garage shed tho. @f.o.s. Yup..lol, free rent ;-)
I went by a few weeks ago and there was activity, I think the cars are gone.
trailpro if I go here and there's a dude warming his hands next to a fire in that stove, I'm going to assume that's you lol!
Naw..not really, not this one. Sometimes a little tho..depends on the location. Some people are actually flattered that your showing a keen interest in their old home and want to photograph it.
Boyya, I always get nervous going into places. Especially because I am by myself, but I am more worried about falling through floors than someone telling me to get out. I would just explain I was interested in documents local history etc....and if they kick you out, oh well at least you tried :)
Thanks guys... a rare opportunity to enjoy a full progression of time all posted in literally one day!
While i was in the master bedroom snappin away pictures i could hear mice in the wall beside me. A real nice house on nice property. It would be a real shame if this one is just left to rot.
I was in here today. Its been totaly cleaned out except for the nice old wood stove. Should still be full member tho. Its in great shape for being empty for 5+ years. Its pretty clean, it barely smells at all. Still liveable and saveable for sure. Minor mould is just starting to set in upstairs, there's a small hole in the roof in a walk-in closet.

I was there recently. It's all boarded up, and they look like they were freshly put in, too. I got some pictures of the exterior, and some of the arson damage. I think I saw this house on the news some weeks ago after is was burned by arsonists. More abandoned buildings in Rockwood were burned as well on the same day, they may be connected. http://kitchener.ctvnews.ca/4-suspicious-fires-in-1-morning-in-wellington-county-1.3511288
