The Waterworks pump house was built in 1904 on the lakeshore between Whitby Harbour and Heydenshore Park. An additional pump house was built o the east of this building in 1959. The original building ceased to be used when a third pump house was completed in 1978. Courtesy of Whitby Public Library site.
Probably see more boxy condos before long.
By the descriptions on the walls by the valves this is a Flanger or plow. The one description is for the "wings" to be out or in, which would lead me to believe it is a combination of the two, possibly a "Jordan Spreader".
Was this Raceway to get slots? If it fell through is that why it is closed?
Loved the bugs and the old steel wagon wheels!

The roadway is being watched very close right now as well as the grounds. There was a deliberate fire set and shingles piled in the road opposite Camp 30 grounds this week. Be forewarned, DRPS are watching you!
So much 1960's turquoise and full wall mural.
I do hope they take out the drywall and re-plaster!
I found this on line today: Help Preserve the Historic 1863 Stanton Hotel Fundraiser Dinner Friday, November 02, 2012 Hopefully it will be preserved for future geberations.
It looks like it might be too late. It went up in flames this past weekend.

This is the original location of a Speedway! Pleasure Valley Speedway operated from 1952-1953 and was a 1/4 mile dirt oval. Located on the east side of Simcoe St., north of Taunton Road - was a driving range. The property was known as "Pleasure Valley Ranch" It was part of a circuit in 1952 that included the tracks at Port Bolster, Streetsville and Orillia. It Closed in May of 1953 after only 3 se
Yeh, I see this place and I think of how nice the Oshawa Harbour area could be. This place has been derelict for most of the last 6 years. It is totally useless as an industry and politicians just ignor it. It will take a fire or something for them to act like what happened at the old sugar storage area, which by the way still exists for some unknown reason, just about 5kms away.
Just visited the one by Yonge St. & Mount Albert/Queen St. Still looks the same, I turned down another road just East of here and lo and behold there was the other set of walls! Did this canal ever see ship traffic or was it just a water diversion or Government project to help the jobless of the time? I cannot imagine any boats in this unless the water level was much higher, as it was in many of o
Just visited the part with the diamond sign heading South. Took my Jeep to the top of the ridge just beyond the sign, off to the right and had a look. I could not see far enough and it was extremely hot, so I turned around, for now. Is the road passable at all? I can post the two pics I took.
