Levels System & Member Elections

You might have already encountered some level badges around the website. If you intend to become an involved member of this community, user level is something you must know about. Please read on to learn more about location levels and user levels

What are location levels?

Location levels determine access permissions. Generally, locations with higher levels are better preserved or more dangerous. Conversely, well known public locations have lower levels.

How to determine location levels

Location levels are not random. Their levels can change over time. Below is a general guidelines on how levels should be assigned, viz., the location level criteria

Level 1 Historic places, demolished places, cemeteries, low risk ruins.
Level 2 Well known locations, heavy vandalism, relatively low risk to visitors.
Level 3 Some decay, more interesting locations. moderate risk to visitors.
Level 4 Fully intact locations. Sensitive locations.

What are user levels?

Each account has a level assigned. These levels vary from 1 through 4. Guest users and brand new accounts have a level 1. User levels are used to determine access to locations. All locations in the database have a required level to have access. Level 1 locations are publicly accessible but any level above is only available for members who have been promoted to respective levels.

Purpose of user levels

Publicly available locations tend to draw attentions of vandals and arsonists. To preserve these locations, only members with reputation in the community will gain access to higher level locations.

How to get considered for promotion

To get considered for level promotion, you must at least fulfill the minimum requirements. Refer to minimum requirements table. When you are ready, request a new user level promotion election. The community will anonymously debate & vote to either approve or deny the request. If denied, the mods will provide feedback on areas of improvement.

Minimum requirements for promotion

Users must meet the following minimum requirements to hold a community wide promotion election. Achieving the following requirements does not entitle one to receive a promotion. The user must receive community wide approval of their promotion. The admin team is continually working to improve and clarify the requirements to set clear expectations of our users.

Level 1 Guest and brand new accounts default to level 1.
Level 2 Contribute meaningful (quality) content to 10+ locations.
Submit at least 3 new locations of any level.
Must not have record of vandalizing
3 months of activity as Level 1
Level 3 Contribute meaningful (quality) content to 40+ locations.
Submit at least 20 new level 2 or higher locations.
Submit quality write ups with history or details and risks when possible.
Must not have record of offense and abuse of irresponsibly sharing locations
6 months of activity as Level 2
Subject to further qualifications
Level 4 Provide a full write-up on why you should be promoted.
Contribute meaningful (quality) content to 80+ locations.
Submit at least 40 new level 2 or higher locations.
Submit at least 20 new level 3 or higher locations.
Having a trusted member explore with you and vouch for you.
12 months of activity as Level 3
Subject to further qualifications

Application fee for promotion election

Our servers are very costly (thanks heroku) and requires ongoing financial support from the community. All promotion elections, starting in 2023, will require an application fee to be authorized on a credit card before an election is held. When your promotion election is approved, the card will be charged. Conversely when your promotion election is denied, the card will not be charged. The application fee amount is subject to change without notice. Please contact a member of the admin team with any questions you have.

#### Hey all! I'm finally submitting my promotion write-up to apply for Level 2.     Why do I believe I'm suited for this promotion? I believe so because not only have I been actively involved in the community through the website, discord, and other social medias, but my post requirements for Level 2 have **long been surpassed.** I am only about 4 (level 2+) locations and 1 album away from hitting the requirements for level 3.     As of the date of my submission, I have uploaded **39 unique albums** as well as introduced **16 new locations** into the community. I put thought into my location descriptions to make them as easy as it could be for people checking them out for the first time. I format the text with dividers and always include a section that describes the various POEs, if any.     From the 16 locations I've uploaded, only 1 of them are fully exterior, while 3 others are questionable. (the house is inaccessible but other parts such as sheds or garage are open). That leaves 12 locations that I have thoroughly or mostly explored and given the opportunity to others as well. I have come across dozens of locations with no POE and nothing of interest from the outside, so I have no posted them. **Quality > Quantity.**     Of course, although I have taken a short break from exploring recently due to being busy (and going on vacation in 3 days), I won't ever stop contributing. I'll continue to share my adventures with everybody here.  #### Thanks for reading, hope you all will consider my request!

I am applying for level 3. As you can see, I have **31** locations, which significantly surpasses the minimum requirements. However, **6** of those locations are private due to various reasons, and another **2** are level 1. That leaves me with **23** lvl 2+ locations which even then surpasses the minimum requirements.  I also have **103** albums at this time from **78** different places, nearly double the required for level 3. The reason why I often upload albums to places I’ve already been before is for several reasons. I either have historic photographs that haven’t been shared before on the site or I upload my own film photographs, simply because it is a medium that has become rather rare here on OAP (and my only goal in life is to stand out.)  The main reason why I have more than one album at a location is because I revisit and return to places to increase the quality of photos that I have for that place. Just like I plan to do with some of my recent unsuccessful trips. Two notable instances were a certain powerplant that was first featured in my second album ever, and also my first ever urban exploration. I went back in October to take what I believe to be one of the most comprehensive galleries to be posted on OAP (until ishootthings came around and posted a better (and longer) album to the location). The other notable instance was the Blue Staircase mansion where I originally made a quick trip and submitted a good gallery, I then returned with DAexplores to take another set of photos with it.  I’m dedicated to the hobby. I’ve only been in it for 9 months (since may 2022) but in that time I’ve posted an average of 2-3 albums per week of my trips and always been thirsty for more. I’m interactive with the community, I’m a self described decent photographer, and I’ve met all the requirements. I hope in the next 9 months I can travel outside my little bubble that is the Six as well as revisit some of my favourites, as well as explore with more people. I also plan to start shooting with a tripod which will be a big change from my normal style but I'll adapt. I always have. Idk if i was trying to convince or inform- writing this reminds me of english class. yeah vote up or approve or whatever it says
