An abandoned rail bridge that will still take hundreds of years to corrode, but that's not really what you want over a live road. I was in Montreal about 7 years ago when one came down killing a few people and that bridge was inspected just hours before!!. A riveted metal bridge probably built in the late 1800's. As a sheet metal guy, the riveting pattern here, drives me nuts. There was no measuring and no care taken for edge distance. Even the number of rivets from one side to another is different. I have to remind myself, though, of the challenging time this was built and the lack of training and the equipment we have today. A rail trail will force the needed restoration and be nice. There is no sign of any rails or ties for miles and that would be really a lot of work and expensive to remove. Hole and tripping hazards over a live road. Nearest towns on the tracks were Glencoe and Talbotville.
