There are newly installed security cameras installed throughout the building. The property is fenced off, and you are very visible getting in. Parts of the interior are quite moldy as well.
This massive, 72000 square foot building on Birchmount Road was built in 1961, and became abandoned in 2020 with all operations shutting down during the COVID outbreak. This mixed-use building had an extensive number of businesses, starting with a car repair shop by the name of “Pro Fit Auto Body Parts Inc” that had a whopping 8 reviews on google (4.5 stars though). Loading bays on the south side of the building were utilized as storage and also a furniture rental operation. Moving on to the more interesting businesses, this place had your grocery needs as well, with “Master Ur Price”, a wholesale grocery store, being located in the basement.
However, the majority of the building belonged to the Sakinah Community Center and the Farah Academy Religious School. According to their facebook, the Sakinah Community Center was a “full-service Muslim community center providing social services, facilitating health and fitness and building strong youth and families through an Islamic based framework.”
There was a very large community that made up the community center, with the now-archived website showing bustling photos of community events, group activities, and a busy gymnasium. Events were held in the mosque and the library. The Farah Academy was associated with the community center and had over 100 pupils, ranging from preschool to grade 8.
