Hazards of Beare Power Plant
POTENTIAL GAS HAZARD!!!
History of Beare Power Plant
The Beare Road Landfill was active from 1967 to 1983. The Beare Gas Power Plant was built in 1996, and functioned as a landfill gas plant to generate electricity up until 2014. The power plant had pipes that connected to vertical gas wells throughout the decommissioned landfill, collecting methane gas produced from decomposition and turning it into energy.
The City looked at options involving rehabilitating the building, but ultimately ended up making the decision to demolish it. Demolition of the plant was planned to start spring 2024, but has (shocker) been moved back to fall 2025.
